About Shane Dufrene

Captain Shane Dufrene was born and raised in the Louisiana marsh, and he has been guiding anglers through the labyrinth of coastal marshes, bayous, and barrier islands for over 22 years. Louisiana's inshore fishery is one of the most productive in the country, and Shane knows every cut, point, and oyster reef in his home waters south of Houma.

Shane's approach is simple: put anglers on fish using the most effective techniques for the day's conditions. Whether that means poling the shallows for tailing redfish on calm mornings or anchoring up on a shell reef and loading the boat with speckled trout under popping corks, he adapts to what the marsh is giving. His 24-foot bay boat handles the open bays and the tight marsh channels equally well.

Latest Fishing Report

2026-04-01

The Louisiana marsh is fishing lights-out right now. Redfish are stacked on the shell reefs and oyster beds in Terrebonne Bay, crushing live shrimp under popping corks and gold spoons. We have been catching limits of slot reds by 10 AM most mornings this week, with several bulls mixed in for the fight of a lifetime.

Speckled trout are also in the mix, especially around the deeper shell points on the outgoing tide. Soft plastic paddletails on 1/4 oz jig heads have been the top producer for specks in the 15-18 inch range, with a few pushing 4 pounds. Water clarity has been outstanding with light southeast winds keeping the marsh calm and fishable.
