Shimano Vanford A Spinning Reel — 2500

Full Review
The Shimano Vanford is what you get when you take the Stradic FL and put it on a diet. At just 6.0 oz for the 2500 size, it is one of the lightest full-featured spinning reels on the market, and the MicroModule II gears make it one of the smoothest. It is an absolute joy to fish all day — no fatigue, instant line pickup, and silky retrieves. The trade-off for that weight savings is a CI4+ carbon body that is not quite as rigid as the Stradic FL's Hagane frame. You will notice it if you really load the rod fighting a big fish in heavy cover. For finesse applications and light tackle, though, the Vanford is practically unbeatable at this price. Skip it if you need a workhorse for heavy applications.
